Wirex, the cryptocurrency bank, has come out with new crypto debit cards which comes with contactless payment functionality, as well as, multiple currency accounts, including GBP, EUR, USD, and BTC. The first of these plastic Visa cards were offered this Thursday, March 8 to UK users.
Raphael Shalaby, Wirex Community Manager, confirmed that the technology had passed both internal and external beta tests with a multitude of payment processes. The cards are now ready to be used for everyday transaction purposes.
Now as stated, the card has been made available to UK users since 8 March. It will come to France, Germany, and Italy by the 20 March, and all other European countries should get their hands on it by 27 March. Furthermore, virtual cards were also on its way, and their release will take another 5 to 6 weeks or so, as per Raphael.
In total three types of payment cards are being planned to be launched by Wirex – a virtual card, a physical card, and a prepaid debit card that will boast similarity with the original Wirex card. Virtual cards once available will be ready for user access as soon as they complete their registration. Getting a plastic card will evolving joining a waiting list.
All these Wirex cards can be used for cryptocurrency payments along with exchanges between digital assets and fiat money. What’s more is that all these transactions will take place instantaneously. Besides these, cardholders will also be able to pay for goods and services with these cards, by converting cryptocurrencies. Wirex is currently is the only European bank providing this opportunity.
It is to be noted that earlier this year Visa Europe had ended its cooperation with Wavecrest, a Gibraltar based payment provider. However, Visa representatives have stated that the step was taken due to “continued non-compliance with operating rules” on the part of Wavecrest and that this will not affect other crypto-fiat card programs.
