Blockchains are one of the most innovative inventions of modern day society. Its potential usability is irrefutable, and Enterprises along with Governments are trying to benefit from the technology. Dubai is planning to use blockchains to build a virtual B2B(Business to Business) marketplace for tourists. This will be a part of the 10X initiative taken by the Dubai government.
The initiative started with the main intention of adding an extra distribution channel for hotels. This will give Dubai travelers an in-depth transparent look at all the local tourism options. A statement about the project states,”It[the blockchain project] positions Dubai as a think-tank and innovation leader seeking to truly democratize travel.”
The end goal is to deliver a blockchain solution, couple it with smart contracting among all the different parties, and provide a fulfilling travel itinerary to tourists. With all prices and options being transparent, travelers will be able to create the perfect roadmap in correspondence to their budget.
The initiative will also prove to be helpful to smaller enterprises as well. Now they will be on the map side by side all the big players. At long last, they will have a level playing field to attract the tourists to their businesses. This also paves the way for more companies to participate in the tourism industry which in turn should increase employment and compliment the overall economic growth.
Here is what Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of Dubai Tourism, had to say about the project:
“We at Dubai Tourism are determined to carve a reputation as global leaders in tourism innovation, exponentially accelerating our “digital, mobile and social” first strategy. Today, travel is undergoing one of the most emphatic sectorial transformations due to the radical pace of technological disruption across every aspect of the consumer journey.”
During the launch of the 10X project, his Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated the initiative has made to develop government services and reflect the creative potential of the country.
